室内景观 (PAYSAGES INTÉRIEURS) fa de La Rada, spazio espositivo urbano, un paesaggio vegetale ed organico. Al suo interno si apre la possibilità di un nuovo tempo lento e ciclico - quello della crescita delle piante e delle stagioni che si succedono - e non più statico e frenetico, diventando un luogo dove sperimentare maniere d’abitare l’ambiente tra dentro e fuori, artificiale e naturale.

室内景观 (PAYSAGES INTÉRIEURS) turns La Rada, an urban exhibition space, into a vegetal and organic landscape. Inside it opens up the possibility of a new slow and cyclic time - that of the growth of plants and the succeeding seasons - and no longer static and frenetic, becoming a place to experiment with ways of inhabiting the environment between inside and outside, artificial and natural.

Data Mining è una mostra che presenta una selezione di opere di Paolo Bufalini e Lorenzo Lunghi, artisti la cui pratica guarda alla tecnologia con uno sguardo insolito, distante dal freddo rigore di chi se ne serve in maniera strumentale. Le opere in mostra si servono di luci ultraviolette a irradiazione germicida, concentratori di ossigeno, dispositivi di rilevazione di dati biometrici e tecniche arcaiche di divinazione, per creare un ponte tra tecnologia, suggestione poetica e pensiero magico. Il titolo della mostra fa riferimento al termine informatico che indica l’estrazione automatizzata di informazioni dalle profondità del web, ma apre a numerose possibili interpretazioni, alludendo a uno scavo che non è letterale, ma metaforico. Mentre Paolo Bufalini esplora le profondità del mondo onirico, e della memoria individuale e collettiva, attraverso inconsueti ritratti fotografici, Lorenzo Lunghi presenta una serie di misteriosi dispositivi scultorei che agiscono sull’infosfera della mostra, attivando processualità invisibili eppur cariche di simbologia. 

Data Mining is an exhibition presenting a selection of works by Paolo Bufalini and Lorenzo Lunghi, artists whose practice looks at technology with an unusual eye, far from the cold austerity of those who use it instrumentally. The works in the exhibition use germicidal ultraviolet lamps, oxygen concentrators, biometric data collection devices and archaic divination techniques to create a bridge between technology, poetic suggestion and magical thinking. The title of the exhibition refers to the computer term for the automated extraction of information from the depths of the web, but opens up numerous possible interpretations, alluding to an excavation that is not literal but metaphorical. While Paolo Bufalini explores the depths of the oneiric world and of individual and collective memory through unusual photographic portraits, Lorenzo Lunghi presents a series of mysterious sculptural devices that act on the exhibition's infosphere, activating invisible but symbolically charged processes.

Rooted in the representation of urban space, POST ACTION comes to life through a collection of what’s left.
Materials are transformed into a landscape where the viewer becomes the protagonist and is encouraged to take an intimate journey through a metallic ecosystem and faded remains of glossy billboards.
The audience is invited to explore the space both physically and metaphorically as the artists leverage the conceptual strength of the exhibition. Through various entry points, Federico and Joshua offer moments of reflection and introspection as the viewer gets immersed in the experience.
The artists decide to mix techniques and materials to create a realistic setting; a linear space in which each element is in dialogue with the next. With the support of weamps on the sound, the exhibition space is erased to transport the audience into a fictional, almost cinematic, urban environment.

Il nuovo appuntamento della rassegna Un nuovo crepuscolo vede ora al centro un’esposizione collettiva che raccoglie le installazioni site specific, video e le opere concettuali di Yumna Al-Arashi, Robin Bervini, e Vladimir Miljević e Gabriele Spalluto provenienti da percorsi diversi, uniti però da una ricerca comune che tende verso le riflessioni sul genere, l’identità e l’appartenenza. I temi proposti spesso sono indagati attraverso quello che è lo sguardo esterno nei confronti di un paesaggio interiore fatto di pluralità e identità etniche e culturali.

L’ambiziosa sintesi proposta da Unseen reconstructions avviene tra luoghi geografici e paesaggi intimi. Le opere proposte sono il riflesso delle loro esperienze umane: se per Yumna Al-Arashi, Robin Bervini, Vladimir Miljević e Gabriele Spalluto questa ricerca nasce da una condizione famigliare o la riflessione è mossa dal desiderio di documentare una realtà.

Le riflessioni proposte in mostra attraversano diversi luoghi, riferendosi a tematiche famigliari, geografiche e geopolitiche. Il movimento metaforico che attraversa le loro opere è quello dei corsi d’acqua, in particolare nelle opere site specific, del fiume Maggia. Un fluire apparentemente inarrestabile, che sconfina e mescola le riflessioni sulla costruzione dell’identità – anche verso concetti, di nonluogo e tematiche politiche e ambientali. Con questa mostra negli spazi de La Rada si avrà la possibilità di entrare in contatto con narrazioni perlopiù assenti nel panorama mediatico e artistico ticinese.

The new event of our yearly programm Un nuovo crepuscolo is a collective exhibition that brings together site-specific installations, videos and conceptual artworks designed by Yumna Al-Arashi, Robin Bervini and Vladimir Miljević and Gabriele Spalluto. Although their backgrounds are different, they share an interest in exploring themes such as gender, identity and the sense of belonging. Their investigation is led through a perspective that is external to their intimate landscapes, composed of plurality and mixed ethnic and cultural identities.

Unseen Reconstructions offers an ambitious synthesis between geographical places and intimate landscapes of the self. The artworks mirror the life experiences of the artists: Yumna Al-Arashi’s, Robin Bervini’s Vladimir Miljević’s and Gabriele Spalluto’s artistic research draw from their family status or stems from his willingness to document reality.

The reflections of the artists* in the exhibition cross different places, referring to familiar, geographical and geopolitical themes. The metaphorical movement that runs through the works is inspired by rivers, particularly in the site-specific works. The flow of the Maggia river appears to be inexorable and able to cross any border surrounding conversations on the construction of identity. Concepts, such as non-places, and political and environmental issues are also included, leading the visitor to the following questions.

La Rada’s exhibition allows us to get in touch with narratives that are mostly absent from the media and in the artistic panorama of Ticino.

La mostra "Gulp" prende come punto di partenza la fenomenologia dei vari eventi che potrebbero risultare da o portare all'atto di deglutire ed il percorso per arrivarci. Che si tratti di un gag reflex, un sorso o un boccone.

Invitando cinque artisti a esporre le proprie opere nello spazio della Rada, "Gulp" assume anche la forma di una pubblicazione che coinvolge quattro artisti, estendendo la mostra su carta e nel tempo.

The exhibition “Gulp” takes as its starting point the phenomenology of the various events possibly resulting from – in the act of swallowing, and the journey to get there. Be it a gag reflex, a quick sip, or a mouthful.

Inviting five artists to show their work in the space of La Rada, “Gulp” also takes the form of a publication involving four artists, extending the exhibition onto paper and into time.

“Onde di sé”, nuovo programma espositivo de La Rada di Locarno inaugura sabato 30 Marzo 2024 con la mostra “Sound Echoes, Listening Spaces”. Curata da Isotta Regazzoni, la mostra presenta Suoni svaniti, inudibili e immaginari di Laurent Güdel e (Tumulte) di Juliette Henrioud.

Il progetto nasce dal desiderio di dedicare lo spazio de La rada al suono e ai suoi echi.  Da un lato Laurent Güdel, artista sonoro di Bienne, continua il suo percorso di ricerca sulla storia del suono elettronico, della radio e delle tecnologie audio in generale. Coglie l'occasione per concentrarsi su istituzioni e infrastrutture sonore emblematiche come le antenne e i trasmettitori del Monte Ceneri e di Isone, la Fonoteca Nazionale di Lugano e lo Studio Elettroacustico Sperimentale di Gravesano. La sua composizione sonora è costituita da sue registrazioni, effettuate durante alcune visite in Ticino, e da alcuni archivi sonori degli anni '50 che ha potuto raccogliere presso la Fonoteca nazionale. Juliette Henrioud, artista di Losanna, sviluppa una pratica ibrida che mette in dialogo il mondo del suono con quello pittorico attraverso un approccio intuitivo. L'artista esplora i possibili legami tra onde sonore e stimoli visivi attraverso un approccio introspettivo, che combina l'intuizione del gesto pittorico con la relazione tra tela, colore, materia visiva e conoscenza. Una miscela di onde sonore e field recordings in dialogo con acrilici e acquerelli.

Per inaugurare l'evento, Laurent Güdel inviterà il pubblico a immergersi nella sua installazione sonora in un ascolto collettivo all'apertura del 30 marzo 2024 dalle 19:00.

"Onde di sé", the new exhibition programme at La Rada in Locarno, opens on Saturday 30 March 2024 with the exhibition "Sound Echoes, Listening Spaces". Curated by Isotta Regazzoni, the exhibition presents Suoni svaniti, inudibili e immaginari by Laurent Güdel, and (Tumulte) by Juliette Henrioud.

The project stems from the desire to dedicate the space of La Rada to sound and its echoes. On the one hand, Laurent Güdel, a sound artist from Biel, continues his research process on the history of electronic sound, radio, and audio technologies in general. He's taking the opportunity to focus on emblematic sound institutions and infrastructure such as the antennas and transmitters of Monte Ceneri and Isone, the Fonoteca Nazionale Svizzera in Lugano, and the Experimental Electroacoustic Studio in Gravesano. His sound composition is made up of his recordings, made during a few visits to Ticino, and some sound archives from the 50s that he was able to collect at the Fonoteca. Juliette Henrioud, an artist from Lausanne, develops a hybrid practice that brings the world of sound into dialogue with the world of painting through an intuitive approach. The artist explores the possible links between sound waves and visual stimuli through an introspective approach, combining the intuition of the pictorial gesture with the relationship between canvas, color, visual matter, and knowledge. A mixture of sound waves and field recordings in dialogue with acrylics and watercolors.

To inaugurate the event, Laurent Güdel will invite the public to immerse themselves in his sound installation in a collective listening at the opening on 30 March 2024 at 19:00.

Parallelamente alla prima mostra prenderà avvio il ciclo estemporaneo di perfomance sonore dal titolo “MICRORACCONTI” a cura di Yimei Zhang, che il 20 Aprile 2024 presenterà una sound performance dell’artista Nadia Peter.

Parallel to the first exhibition, an impromptu cycle of sound performances entitled "MICRORACCONTI", curated by Yimei Zhang, will start on 20 April 2024 with a sound performance by artist Nadia Peter.

XXXTRAORDINARY, che inaugura sabato 11 maggio 2024 a La Rada di Locarno, è una mostra collettiva che riunisce quattro artist* che realizzano opere frutto di un'attenzione ossessiva verso oggetti, spazi e situazioni quotidiane. Curata da Beth Dillon e Vera Trachsel, la mostra si compone d’una performance dal vivo e un'installazione interattiva di Colin Raynal, una serie di stampe fotografiche di grande formato di Guadalupe Ruiz, un'installazione partecipativa di Stella R.K. Spinedi e un'installazione video di Jérôme Stünzi. Ispirata al concetto di "endotico" di George Perec e agli scritti di Sara Ahmed sulla fenomenologia queer, XXXTRAORDINARY presenta una collezione eterogenea di pratiche artistiche che danno nuova visibilità, valore e significato agli oggetti, alle parole, ai gesti e alle interazioni banali che costituiscono il materiale di base della nostra vita quotidiana. XXXTRAORDINARY, which opens on Saturday 11 May 2024 at La Rada in Locarno, is a group exhibition bringing together four artists who create works that are the result of an obsessive attention to everyday objects, spaces and situations. Curated by Beth Dillon and Vera Trachsel, the exhibition consists of a live performance and an interactive installation by Colin Raynal, a series of large-format photographic prints by Guadalupe Ruiz, a participatory installation by Stella R.K. Spinedi and a video installation by Jérôme Stünzi. Inspired by George Perec's concept of the "endotic" and Sara Ahmed's writings on queer phenomenology, XXXTRAORDINARY presents a heterogeneous collection of artistic practices that give new visibility, value and meaning to the objects, words, gestures and banal interactions that make up the basic material of our everyday lives. In this way, the exhibition seeks to explore essential questions about orientation, attention and identity in contemporary society: Where is our life? Where is our body? Where is our space?

The vernissage will include an ephemeral intervention and a live performance by Colin Raynal, IL SERA TOUJOURS TROP TARD at 7 p.m. The public is also invited to join the artists and curators of the exhibition for a collective brunch organised in collaboration with Spazio Elle on Sunday 12 May at 12:00 p.m at Spazio Elle, Piazza G. SOLAND ANGEL è un duo di Basilea, composto da Marianna Angel e Yanik Soland. / SOLAND ANGEL is a Basel duo consisting of Marianna Angel and Yanik Soland.

Marianna Angel è una pianista e improvvisatrice, che utilizza varie tastiere e la sua voce. Yanik Soland è un musicista e artista che si concentra su strumenti autocostruiti, basso elettrico ed elettronica. La loro collaborazione è iniziata nel 2019 in occasione di un concerto a Rotterdam, dove hanno esplorato vari approcci all'improvvisazione. Da allora, hanno tenuto concerti in occasione di mostre, esibizioni e club. Gli interessi musicali del duo risiedono nelle intersezioni tra l'improvvisazione libera e i concetti compositivi aperti basati su forme notazionali sviluppate in proprio. / Marianna Angel is a pianist and improviser using various keyboards and voice. Yanik Soland is a musician and artist with a focus on self-constructed instruments, electric bass and electronics. Their collaboration began in 2019 at a concert in Rotterdam, where initial improvisational approaches were explored. Since then they played concerts in the context of exhibitions, performances, and clubs. The duo‘s musical interests are the intersections of free improvisation with open compositional concepts based on self-developed notational forms.

La Rada ha il piacere di ospitare La Dépendance, spazio artistico rurale gestito da artisti, che esporrà dodicimila disegni originali in formato cartolina, realizzati da un numero imprecisato di persone, tra cui alcune artiste e artisti, i quali verranno offerti al pubblico al prezzo simbolico di 1.- franco svizzero. 

La Dépendance è un piccolo cottage per le vacanze situato alla periferia del comune di Saint Imier. Nel 2018, la casa è stata trasformata in una residenza per artisti e in uno spazio espositivo, il cui programma si svolge durante i mesi estivi. La direzione artistica e curatoriale dello spazio, così come la sua manutenzione e gli interventi strutturali, è realizzata da Jan van Oordt.

Drawings for la Dépendance è un progetto di crowdfunding analogico creato per finanziare l'acquisto di questo cottage, basato sulla realizzazione e la vendita di 35.000 opere su carta, in formato cartolina. Le opere vengono esposte in una serie di mostre, rilegate in piccole edizioni, e vendute singolarmente a 1.- CHF. Chiunque è invitato a partecipare al progetto inviando disegni per posta o realizzando la propria opera direttamente durante la mostra. Attualmente sono stati raccolti 21’510 disegni, di cui 7’315 sono stati venduti.  La mostra a La Rada sarà la 14esima dal 2017.

︎Il pubblico potrà dunque acquistare un disegno a proprio piacimento tra i dodicimila disegni esposti, alcuni dei quali realizzati da artiste e artisti, per la cifra di 1.- CHF a disegno, sostenendo così il progetto de La Dépendance.

La Rada is pleased to host La Dépendance, an artist-run rural art space, which will display twelve thousand original postcard-sized drawings made by an unspecified number of people, including some artists, which will be offered to the public for the symbolic price of 1.- CHF. 

La Dépendance is a small holiday home on the edge of the commune of Saint Imier. In 2018, the house was transformed into an artists' residence and exhibition space, with a program running during summer. The artistic and curatorial direction, maintenance, and structural interventions are carried out by Jan van Oordt.

Drawings for la Dépendance is an analog crowdfunding project created to finance the purchase of the house through the creation and sale of 35,000 works on paper in postcard format. The works will be displayed in a series of exhibitions, bound in small editions, and sold individually for CHF 1. Everyone is invited to participate in the project by sending in drawings by post or by creating their own work directly at the exhibition. To date, 21510 drawings have been collected, of which 7315 have been sold.  The exhibition at La Rada will be the 14th since 2017.

︎The public will thus be able to purchase a drawing of their choice from among the twelve thousand drawings on display, some of which were made by artists, for the sum of CHF 1.- per drawing, thus supporting La Dépendance's project.

Da giovedì 8 a domenica 11 agosto 2024, La Rada presenta QUITE QUIET, un programma di performance ed eventi dal vivo che si terranno a La Rada e in diverse sedi sparse per tutta Locarno, a cura di Yimei Zhang e Condylura.

Cos'è abbastanza tranquillo (quite quiet)? È la città di Locarno? O è il festival stesso?

Adottando un titolo e un'attitudine ironici, QUITE QUIET immagina il festival come un format espanso, nel tempo e nello spazio, che coinvolge diverse realtà culturali indipendenti della città per sperimentare un impegno condiviso con l'artista e con il pubblico. Un festival tranquillo, non certo per le proposte, i decibel o i modi di essere che mette in atto, ma come prospettiva critica e strategica, che intende evitare l'ipertrofia spesso associato al festival, coltivando una rete di operatori e spazi culturali che fanno di Locarno una comunità artistica connessa e solidale, capace di trasformare l'intera città in uno spazio per le arti.

Il programma si svolge nelle sale di La Rada, in luoghi all'aperto e spazi diffusi nella città, grazie alla collaborazione con realtà indipendenti come Spazio ELLE, Spazio Volta e Teatro Dei Fauni.

From Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 August 2024, La Rada presents QUITE QUIET, a four-day program of live performances and events held at La Rada and in different venues throughout the whole city of Locarno, curated by the artistic director of La Rada Yimei Zhang and the Italian curatorial platform Condylura.

What’s quite quiet? Is it the city of Locarno? Or is it the festival itself?
Adopting an ironic title and attitude, QUITE QUITE envisions the festival as an expanded format, diffused in time and space, involving various cultural venues across the city to experiment with a shared engagement with artists and the public. A quiet festival, certainly not in terms of artistic proposals, decibels, or modes of being, but as a critical and strategic perspective, which aims to avoid the hypertrophy often associated with the festival, cultivating instead a network of operators and cultural spaces that make Locarno a connected and supportive artistic community, that transforms the whole city into a space for the arts.

QUITE QUIET presents a diverse artistic research program, spanning performance, installation, live media, and experimental music. The program takes place in the spaces of La Rada, in outdoor locations, urban spaces, and through collaborations with other independent venues in Locarno, such as Spazio ELLE, Spazio Volta, and Teatro Dei Fauni
